Nadine Jansen Januari 2010

A special gift for 60 years No.3

18/11/2008
have arrived at last the plants I ordered. Vallisneria spiralis

x 10 x 4 x 5 Hygrophila polysperma
var.nana
Anubias Cryptocoryne x 1 x 3 beckett
Sagittaria subula

Unfortunately I found that the Sagittaria subula and higher than I imagined, and it is not at all suitable to form a lawn, so today I asked via email for an offer of Sagittaria pusilla, which is much lower. 15/11/2008
Today, I proceeded to stick with silicone aquarium rocks bigger, so I will avoid any collapse.
Also today is past my best friend Oliver to fix things at my sister's PC, has seen both the aquarium (not yet set up) and rocks, but fortunately did not suspect a thing, and the surprise is yet assured .

Akadama Yesterday I bought at the Crespi Bonsai Pambio Noranco. I took a bag of 10 kg of Quality Hard, this is to prevent the compact Akadama shortly.
Today I sifted through the sieves Akadama special, so I raised a good amount of dust that would have only dirty water.
Then I put everything in a bucket, I let the water run until the water was more turbid. It then began treatment dell'Akadama necessary to ensure that it loses its ability to absorb over the KH. Every two days I will change the water in the bucket and fill it again, and this until the end of the month.
08/11/2008
Today I went to a quarry Madonna del Piano to search for suitable rocks. The NL Nederlands, that they must have had:
- beautiful to behold;
- Light color so stand out on a fund constituted by Akadama;
- did not have to release limestone
- It must have all of the same type and with different shapes.
not deny that there was difficult to look for rocks that would be suitable. In fact, most were limestone, which might have affected the values of the GH water. To test the stones I used very common scale (the one you use to clean the coffee machine) poured into a dropper.
When I find interesting stones, we poured over a drop of lime, if the drop began to Frigole and make bubbles, it meant that the stone was filled with limestone, but if there was no reaction, he could go. After I had found several types of stone, was the inpresa difficult to find the same type, so as to create a uniform layout. I proceeded to fill a whole backpack, this for me to have enough material to make different compositions.
got home, I put a sheet on a table on which I drew the outline of the aquarium intereressato, and inside I drew the positions of the various stones on the principle of the golden section. I also marked the positions are ideal for plants.
On paper this project, I started placing the stones, and after several tests, the result is one of the photo incima mail.
The next step will be to buy everything you need for setting up the fund and plants.

Angelique From I Love Money

A special gift for 60 years

At the end of December 2008, my godmother Marianne celebrates its 60 years. For his milestone, with the help of mine, my mother and our friend Ritta, will set up an aquarium for the occasion. This is a Eheim Aquarium, the MP Aquabay 60 (random?).

My intention is to set up an aquarium is easy to manage, with a layout similar to those proposed by Takashi Amano, but without using the ADA products as too expensive. The style will Iwagumi

The layout will consist of rocks (not limestone) fi light color, place a fund set up by sun Akadama end. The plants will be easier to administer. I intend to introduce fish that will be:
1 - Crossocheilus siamensis (which eat algae);
3 - Corydoras Paleatus (such as fish from the bottom) who were born in my tank of 54 liters;
5 - Cheirodon axelrodi
The values of 'Water will be:
pH: 6.5
GH: 7.0

--- -------------------------------------------------- ----------------------
INTRODUCTION
this is my second aquarium, bought in June 2007. My goal has been to set up a tropical freshwater aquarium that differs from the first (The first aquarium), especially on the parameters of hardness and acidity of the water. Moreover, I wanted to practice what they gathered up to that point.
bought at the Manor of Lugano as a result of a balance. I bought the aquarium quetione to CHF 100 .- (this was a promotion) and ranged from a 15W lamp (Sylvania from 10,000 ° K!!) And an internal filter the Eheim (mod.2007) , a Jäger Heater 50W and a thermometer.
I did not know that from that moment he started the "disease" for this passion.
I bought even after the end of the fertilized JBL and some testing of Tetra GH-KH-PH-NO2-O2-CO2, and other useful products.

START CONSTRUCTION
decided to make a rich substrate as the plants you want to plant more demanding than those of the first aquarium. The substrate I did this: 1 cm of the bottom fertilized JBL AcquaBasis (later find out that it is too little) and 2 cm of quartz gravel (mixed colors black-gray-white), after I put the sticks fertilization of Tetra. Then I added the decorative elements such as a log and stone. Followed the addition of the first few plants such as Anubias and Microsorum p. taken from the aquarium first, and gigantea Vallisneria. After entering the water had warmed to 25 ° C I activated the filter. After starting the filter, I added water products necessary to bring the values of water according to desired values. I entered the first fish on 07.07.2007 (what a mistake, but I did not know the month of ripening and was convinced that the capsules activators Filter Tetra did not have to wait a month before introducing the first fish). The fish that I added were: 2
Caradine Japonica;
4 Gymocorymbus ternetzi;
Paletatus
2 3 Corydoras Colisa Lalia
9 Cheirodon Axelrod.
Currently I have in the tank the fish contained in the Schedule. It
I entered too many fish in too short a time period will also fish were so compatible with each other but unfortunately the tank having actually only 30 gallons, was too sweeping. Most of the fish did not die immediately, but after so long. So advice to all not to make the mistake I did, do not trust the labels that say you can insert the fish after 24 hours, it is a hoax! In the near aquarium that will set up, follow the principle of letting the tank mature for at least a month.
Later, I realized the fundamental importance the presence of plants in the aquarium, but other problems soon presented themselves actually replace them. Indeed my choices and it was based on choices of plants suited to the characteristics of my aquarium, they did not grow and in some cases died. Then I discovered the site of www.acquaportal.it , and from that moment it is an open world. Thanks to the various guides and the aid received from various members of AP, I learned a lot of concepts that unfortunately are not on the books. Soon, I reached a good base of knowledge that led me to have the knowledge necessary for the achievement of the current situation. Of course, some initial mistakes I can not fix them now, unless it dismantled and rearranged throughout the aquarium, but for now I do because I still achieved a good win-win situation for both fish and plants to also take over the considerable expense at the moment I can not afford.
also the notions that I learned during the ups and downs with my school aquarium, I'm sure when I will start the preparation of the next tank, things will certainly be better.

History:
why see in the picture, is my first aquarium, where I began to experiment for the first time with this passionate hobby that still affects me particularly. The aquarium in question was, so to speak, the aquarium reserves and / or quarantine of my father, who was before me, an avid acquriofilia. The aquarium should have a presumably aged 30-35 years, but is still in perfect condition apart from some scratch on the glass. Also my father getiva another much larger aquarium of 160 liters gross, but I can remember, never did this passion almost a drug as it is for me now, and the aquarium in question kept him in the garage unused.

When in 1998 I moved from my old apartment in an adjacent one to begin to have my independence, I decided that I wanted to have an aquarium in my living room, and that is why I took the old acquarietto inpolverato from the garage. I settled on an old TV stand and started the construction by taking a little material from the aquarium of my father, such as gravel and pieces of Anubias. I bought the Eheim internal filter loaded with one sponge. Later, as do most of the newbies, I just added the fish, 2 neon cardinal, 2 zebrafish, 2 guppies, in short, the classic minestrone. At first it performed the water test and of course there were losses. Later, after several readings of old books aquarium of my father that I had found by chance in the attic, I began to document (if you have time you have an older PC with a 56K connection, but the forum!).
Later I also added the Microsorum pteropus tying them to a trunk. Luckily for me the water of the house, came from a source that emits MOOLTO clean water and a neutral acidity and soft, this allowed the Cardinals to survive. The values that I was back in 14.11.2003: 10 NO3 - NO2 0.0 - GH 3.00 - KH 3.0 - pH 6.8 (I had started keeping a diary). As I used the test strips measuring Petra (TetraPond QuickTest 5in1). How I used the products and TetraPond Aquaprotect TetraPond AquaClean. Fertilization was used only as a liquid fertilizer of Tetra.
Periodic maintenance was to do a partial change of water (not regularly) clean the filter (cleaned it at all), add to the AcquaClean, I put a few drops of herbicide, I put the vitamins
not I had no notion as to the administration of CO2, the choice of lamps and so on. I was just beginning.
I often had problems with algae and then began to administer the herbicide for the algae Tetra. Often Guppy died of dropsy, but since you did not have to buy more consistently reproduced.
on 19.11.2003 entered into the aquarium 2 Gyrinocheillus aymonieri to control the proliferation Algar.
So its a nice "rebelot" as they say the elders of my parties.

The situation today is much changed, thanks to various readings of books and many visits to the forums, I learned many important things that previously did not know at all, such as not thoroughly clean the filter pad but simply sciaquadola a bit with the water that I raise during the change and only when necessary, I make partial changes every 2 weeks 25% of water control values of water through the liquid reagents, and much much more.
Currently, the aquarium looks like the situation described in the card. With the knowledge acquired to date, I could redo everything, but the aquarium in question travels so well that requires minimal maintenance. If you think that there are currently inside a Gyrinocheillus aymonieri (clear glass) 2 and more than 20 Platy Guppy, one would think that an aquarium as small as 30 gallons would not be able to handle such a population, but no. It seems that I accidentally found a biological balance that works perfectly, the values are always normal. The Platy playing constantly, sometimes they die for a reason unknown, which is immediately devoured by Gyrinocheillus, avoiding water pollution. The situation is very similar to that found in nature, and frankly, even that modest this aquarium, do not feel like stopping a tank with a biological cycle works.

Firstaquarium My travels since 1998 to buy more!
